Description from the publisher:

This work by one of the most influential Muslim scholars of this century comes at a time when a host of Islamic terminology has been thrust into the current media coverage about Islam and Muslims. In his inimitable style, Shaykh Yusuf Qaradawi's Madkhal li-Ma'rifah al-Islam attempts to explain Islamic concepts and decipher their meaning in the context of contemporary debates. Divided into five chapters, his explanation of Islamic concepts is compared with current issues and perspectives on Islam. This work is not an attempt to preach to the reader but aims to fill the gaps in one's understanding of the Islamic worldview.

Description from the publisher:

The author depicts the basic principles of the Islamic Economic System in the light of the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah. He also offers a comparative study of the economic systems functioning under the three ideologies viz., Communism, Capitalism and Islam, contrasting them objectively and establishing the superiority of the latter with convincing arguments.

Capitalistic and Communistic ideologies have proven to be lacking in giving mankind the much needed peace and security. These ideologies are rather fatal to the peace and progress of humanity.

While the Economic System gifted by Islam, like its laws and orders are relevant to all other social disciplines, can safely be called universal law. It works in any kind of society. It is a system of brotherhood and mutual love and affection. It never favors class-struggle and hatred. It provides real peace, safety and tranquility to mankind.

Description from the publisher:

A must-read treatise in the movement towards an Islamic Renaissance. Dr. Qaradawi contends that the extraordinary pressures of the modern world and internal decadence have distorted the Islamic vision of many Muslim youth. The response has been a retreat from modernism to conservatism and extremism. The author addresses the above predicament by analyzing the causes of the crisis and showing how to approach the Qur'an and Sunnah in a balanced and comprehensive manner to bring back a true Islamic civilization.

Description from the publisher:

The Sunnah still provides the stable moral framework – the grammar – that enables Muslims, by formal rules and inward sense, to know right from wrong. However, separation from the mainstream of life puts the Sunnah in danger of becoming rigid – an archaism. Addressing that danger, this book explains how the Sunnah can function as the grammar of a living, adaptive language, capable of guiding (and not shying from) the mainstream.

The first chapter sets out the qualities that characterize authentic application of the Sunnah: universality, coherence (so that different spheres of human responsibility are not split), compassionate realism, moderation, and humility. The second explains standards and procedures for determining the Sunnah in the fields of jurisprudence and moral instruction. The third chapter illustrates through detailed examples common errors in understanding the Sunnah – reading hadiths singly without sufficient context, confusing legal and moral injunctions, means and ends, figurative and literal meanings…–and it proposes remedies for these errors.

YUSUF AL-QARADAWI is one of the Islamic world's most widely respected and prolific scholars. His works have remained popular over many decades. Among the best known of his books to appear in English is The Lawful and the Prohibited in Islam (first edition 1994).

Description from the publisher:

Yusuf al-Qaradawi makes an in-depth study of the doctrinal position of Islam toward non-muslims in an Islamic state. But he does not exhaust himself on the expositions of the doctrine: he goes beyond its theoretical formulation, and views the doctrine in its historical context over the centuries. This is not only fair, but also in the best tradition of intellectual probity.

To him, doctrines, constitutions, and laws are held sacrosanct, and are sustained by the common will. That is why he sees the implementation of the Islamic law in the collective conscience of the Muslim people - a conscience shaped by their reverence of the Qur'an and of the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad, upon whom be peace. Al-Qaradawi's treatment of the subject os scholarly, yet not pedantic. He discusses all of the issues at length, without encumbering the narrative flow. However, what authenticates him is his commitment to the truth. With the shari'ah as his grundschaft, and the practice of the Muslim people as his witness, he deftly rests his case with the tribunal of history. The end result is highly satisfying work.

Description from the publisher:

Among the most important books Dr. Yusuf al-Qardawi has written is the present volume on fiqh az-Zakat. It is a study which deals in depth with legal rulings and philosophy of zakat in the light of the Qur'an and Sunna.

Among the five pillars of Islam, Zakat is the third after Tawhid and prayer. It is crucial to the financial and political structure of every Muslim community. Yet, despite its pivotal significance, it is the least understood of the basic practices of Islam and indeed now plays little or no part in the lives of the vast majority of Muslims. That fact makes this book a very important addition to the literature available to English-speaking Muslims.

It covers every aspect of zakat in great detail, studying those who are obliged to pay zakat, the amounts they have to pay, as well as the types of wealth on which zakat must be paid. It also deals with how zakat is collected, its connection to Muslim governance and its relation to society as a whole. Fiqh az-Zakat is a seminal work for all Muslims and an important reference book for everyone interested in Islam.

Zakat is an important pillar of the Islamic worldview. It is obligatory on every Muslim, who possesses valuables of a certain amount (nisab), to pay Zakat. They are unable to relate their earnings, expenditure and other vital socio-economic factors to the calculation of their Zakat.

This guidebook is written for every Muslim in easy, simple language and presented in a user-friendly format to help them understand better the objectives, nature, benefits and principles underlying Zakat. An extensive and structured calculation form is provided to help calculate Zakat in the light of one's earnings and expenses in today's society.

Description from the publisher:

In this thoughtful and important book, Shaykh Yusuf al-Qaradawi examines the worldwide revival of interest in Islam and attempts to explain why this interest has led so many among the younger generation of Muslims to tread the path of intolerance and rigid interpretation. An older and more experienced voice, he articulates the wisdom brought on by maturity, sound scholarship, and a deep understanding of both the letter and the spirit of the Qur an and the Sunnah. Looking for answers in a world marked by enormous volatility, pressure and political and economic corruption, Muslim youth are an easy target for extremist movements. Shaykh Qaradawi traces the complex roots of these views, and examines in-depth the many uses of the path to intolerance, offering a variety of remedies and cures. Perhaps more relevant today, given our troubled climate, than at any time in the past, the work introduces readers to a subject of great significance and wide ramifications.
