Shaykh Abdallah Bin Bayyah's Biography.
Shaykh Abdallah Bin Bayyah, hafidhu Allah, who has rightfully earned the title of "A Scholar's Scholar," was born in Mauritania, and is the son of the eminent, Shaykh Mahfudh (may Allah have mercy on his soul). In his youth, Shaykh Abdallah memorized most of the sacred texts and quickly advanced his studies of the various disciplines, including the Qur'an, Hadith, grammar, logic, rhetoric, semantics, philosophy and poetry. His thirst for knowledge was so great he traveled to Tunisia to study legal judgments (qada'). He eventually returned to Mauritania and there served as a judge in the highest courts. He was so advanced in his knowledge of jurisprudence and understanding of the complexities of legal analysis, that he was appointed Minister of Education and Minister of Justice until finally serving as Vice President to the first President of Mauritania. Today, Shaykh Abdallah Bin Bayyah is an accomplished author with several widely distributed publications to his name and has delivered countless lectures throughout the world; an expert in Islamic legal methodology (usul al-fiqh), he has written about and spoken extensively on the jurisprudence of Muslim minorities living in the West (al-fiqh al-aqalliyat). Shaykh Abdullah is also a member of several legal bodies worldwide, such as the European Council of Legal Opinion and the Supreme Fiqh Council. He currently resides in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia with his family and teaches Islamic Legal Methodology, Qur'an and Arabic at the King Abdal Aziz University.
